Travelling to Ireland

There are daily direct flights to Ireland from a wide range of cities in the UK, Europe and the US, along with flights from the Emirates. Airports include:

Ireland is also accessible via ferry.

Getting to Galway

Galway city is served by an extensive public transport network linking Dublin, Shannon and Knock airports. This includes:

• Train:

  • Irish Rail, offering 9 daily train transfers from Dublin City with travel time from 2 hours 10 minutes

• Bus:

  • Regular bus services operated by Bus Éireann and Citylink, with fully air-conditioned coaches equipped with free Wi-Fi. The motorway from Dublin Airport to Galway City allows for travel time from 2 hours 20 minutes, with direct bus services operating every half hour (Dublin Airport Terminal to Galway City Centre).  Knock and Shannon Airports are currently serviced by Bus Éireann, expanding services to accommodate the growing number of passengers to each airport.

  • Should you wish to travel to Galway by car, please refer to the AA Road Maps & Route Planner or Google Maps and check the campus map.

  • Parking will be available to book and details will be sent to all conference delegates one week prior to the conference.

Getting to University of Galway​

• Walk:

  • University of Galway is a 20 minute walk from Galway Train Station and Galway Bus Station. Conference Registration will take place at the Bailey Allen Hall.

• Bus:

  • To arrive at the Bailey Allen Hall, take bus 402 (towards Newcastle) from Eyre Square (Stop No 6) to University Road (Opp NUIG Main Gate). Then walk for approx. 5 minutes.

  • To arrive at Dunlin Village (accommodation), take bus 402 from Eyre Square (towards Newcastle) from Eyre Square (Stop No 6) to Greenfields Estate. Then walk for approx. 4 minutes.

  • To arrive at The Westwood (accommodation), take bus 402 from Eyre Square towards Newcastle from Eyre Square (Stop No 6) to Thomas Hynes Road. Then walk for approx. 3 minutes.

  • The Galmont Hotel is approx. a 4 minute walk from Galway Bus Station and a 7 minute walk from Galway Train Station. To get to the university from The Galmont Hotel, follow the bus directions to the Bailey Alllen Hall above.
