On behalf of the European Academy of Childhood-onset Disability (EACD) Conference team 2026, I extend to you a céad mile fáilte (a hundred thousand welcomes) to Ireland. 

In Ireland, we have a strong history of community. It is this sense of community that informs our Irish conference team’s vision for EACD 2026. We see you, our Irish, European and international friends, families and colleagues as central to this community. We believe that together we have the best chance of ensuring the quality of life and full inclusion of people with childhood-onset disabilities and their families. We truly hope you can join us at University of Galway, Ireland, from June 3rd – 6th 2026 for the 38th Annual Meeting of EACD.

The old Irish wisdom ‘Mol an Óige agus Tiocfaidh Siad’ – Encourage the young and they will flourish – is the theme of EACD 2026. The conference will focus on disability and health through a holistic lens. Taking a lifespan approach and positioning the voice of people with childhood-onset disabilities and their families at the centre of all that we do, we aspire to support people with disabilities to flourish not just now but into their futures.

Galway is a city of energies. The majestic Atlantic Ocean on its doorstep, the powerful river Corrib pulsing through it and a youthful, vibrant population with the University at its heart. It is with great pleasure we welcome you here in person to share in cutting edge research and debate, to enjoy the unexpected conversations that lead to new connections, and to join us for some memorable fireside chats and social gatherings.
